For professionals
Technical information for architects, designers and builders: the XCL boards used by maxCL, ventilated facades, floating floors, fluted cladding, installation and frequently asked questions.
XCL boards
XCL boards are a new generation of High-Pressure Laminate (HPL) boards: composite materials made by pressing kraft paper, phenolic resin and layers of decorative paper together, with a protective melamine layer. The exterior panel has decorative surfaces on both sides and is coated with an acrylic layer for UV protection.
With a density of 1.45 g/cm³, the XCL panel is highly resistant to damage and remarkably stable structurally: it needs no substrate support at thicknesses above 6 mm. The boards are made to withstand harsh weather, with protection against UV rays, extreme temperatures, moisture and other environmental factors.
Advantages of exterior HPL
- Thermal insulation in heat and cold
- Weather resistance
- Helps with sound insulation
- Improved fire resistance
- UV resistant
- Easy to install
- Scratch resistant
- Double laminated
- Impact resistance
- Solvent resistant
- Easy to clean
Thicknesses
- Facade thicknesses: 6, 8 and 10 mm
- Flooring thicknesses: 8, 10, 12 and 14 mm, with anti-slip lamination
The decor is on both faces, for facades that look right from any angle. Single-sided printing is available to order only.

Accreditations
GREENGUARD, CE, FSC and the European standard EN 438. Installation is done on ventilated facade systems accredited at European Union level.
Floating floors
The XCL panel also suits floating floors, with an anti-slip laminated surface. The panel is made of thermosetting resins reinforced with cellulose fibres and coated with an acrylic layer for UV protection. The walking surface has anti-slip lamination, and there is a reinforcement layer beneath the paper layers. With a density of 1.45 g/cm³, it needs no substrate support at thicknesses above 8 mm.
“Floating” means the floor is not glued down: the boards sit on adjustable pedestals above the waterproofing, and water drains away underneath.
- XCL board — anti-slip surface, decor of your choice, 8–14 mm.
- Joints — small gaps are left between the boards for water to drain through.
- Adjustable pedestals — bring the floor level, even if the slab underneath slopes.
- Waterproofing — stays intact and accessible: the boards can be lifted.
The thickness depends on how the board is laid and how much traffic the terrace gets — we decide it together. There are 17 flooring decors; you can see what is in stock right now in the colour catalogue, the rest are brought in to order.
Exterior fluted cladding
Created in the maxCL workshop, our exterior fluted cladding is made for modern, durable facades: fluted profiles of Austrotherm EPS polystyrene, finished with maxCL HPL slats.
The Austrotherm EPS polystyrene structure brings lightness, stability and energy efficiency. The maxCL HPL slats protect against external factors: UV radiation, weather and mechanical impact. Together, the two materials make an exterior fluted cladding that is durable, attractive and contemporary.
- Modern, versatile design — a contemporary look, with clean lines and a variety of finishes.
- Thermal and sound insulation — the polystyrene adds energy efficiency and acoustic comfort.
- A wide choice of colours and textures — the broad range of HPL finishes lets you personalise the facade.
- Minimal maintenance — the clad surfaces are easy to clean and need no special periodic treatment.
- Durability and resistance — HPL withstands weather, UV radiation and wear.
Installation on accredited systems
Together with our partners, we offer 3 installation systems for ventilated facades, accredited at European Union level and compliant with current regulations: Hilti, fischer and Aluvent. Details on the Installation page.
A ventilated facade, from the inside out
- The building wall — the base everything is fixed to.
- Thermal insulation — stays sheltered behind the panels.
- Substructure — the profiles of the installation system, fixed to the wall at a distance from it.
- Ventilated cavity — air circulates between the insulation and the panel.
- XCL panel — 6, 8 or 10 mm, in the chosen decor, fixed to the substructure.
The steps of a project
- You send us the project — the plans, a few photos or just the dimensions.
- We choose the decor and thickness that suit the building.
- We settle on the system — one of the 3 accredited systems, matched to your building.
- Execution — through Malinco, in Sântandrei. Decors in stock are already in Romania.
Before you request a quote
- Facade measurements — the length and height of each wall, plus the windows and doors.
- Joints — a facade looks better when the joints line up with the window openings.
- The decor, seen in person — on-screen colours are only a guide; come to Malinco to see the boards before you choose.
Frequently asked questions
About the board
What is XCL?
A new generation of HPL (High-Pressure Laminate) boards: kraft paper, phenolic resin and layers of decorative paper pressed together, with a protective melamine layer and an acrylic layer for UV protection.
What thicknesses are available?
For exteriors: 6, 8 and 10 mm. For flooring: 8, 10, 12 and 14 mm, with anti-slip lamination.
How does it perform in a fire?
Class B-s1, d0 according to EN 13501-1+A1. The board has also passed the CAN/ULC S134 (Canada) and NFPA 285 (USA) tests; under ASTM E 84 it has a flame spread index of 10 and smoke developed of 0.
How is it maintained?
The surface is easy to clean and resistant to solvents; it needs no special periodic treatment.
Can you make a custom decor?
Single-sided printing is available to order only. Tell us what you have in mind and we will check.
Uses
What can it be used for?
Ventilated facade cladding, floating floors, premium outdoor furniture, office and toilet partitions, and custom projects — from garden washbasins to balcony panels.
What is maxCL fluted cladding?
Fluted profiles of Austrotherm EPS polystyrene, finished with maxCL HPL slats — a lightweight facade cladding with thermal and sound insulation.
Can I use HPL indoors too?
Yes: reception desks, window surrounds, office and toilet partitions, bathroom vanity tops and cladding.
Installation
How is it installed on a facade?
On a substructure fixed to the wall at a distance from it, so that air circulates behind the panels. Together with our partners, we have 3 installation systems for ventilated facades, accredited at European Union level.
Stock and ordering
Which decors are in stock?
Stock changes from one day to the next, so we show it live: in the colour catalogue each decor is marked “in stock” (with the available thicknesses) or “to order”. The catalogue has 227 exterior decors and 17 flooring decors.
How do I get from an idea to a finished project?
Choose the product under Interior or Exterior, add it to the Quote list and send us what you know: approximate dimensions, photos, the decor you want. We come to measure, design it, cut it in our workshop and install it — you get the finished project.
Do I need an account for the Quote list?
No. The list is kept in your browser; when you are ready, you send it to us with your name and phone number or e-mail, and we come back to you with a quote. It is not a shopping cart.
